DON’T GIVE UP! KEEP WRITING! If you’re a writer in your heart of hearts, then write ’til your fingers are numb. There have been times when I’d felt like throwing in the towel and giving up on my writing dreams, but even after stuffing all of my writing materials underneath my bed and deep into my closet, only two days later there I was digging it all back out again. Even after scanning through your pile of rejection letters, you must (and you will) find the inner strength to fight discouragement. Take your rejection letter and turn it over to use the backside as scrap paper and keep writing. If you’re a screenwriter, you must envision the audience watching your movie as you’re currently writing it. If you’re a novelist, you must envision your readers physically holding and reading your book as you are presently writing your first draft. – Randolph Randy Camp

One summer. Seven hearts. 29 Dimes. It wasn’t your typical LA summer. No one could’ve predicted what happened that day in Silver Lake. It was a summer of passion, confusion, and growth.

One hot, crazy summer.

Seven hungry hearts.

29 Dimes.

Award-winning, prolific writer Randolph Randy Camp creates a moving, tender love story amid a wild, crazy summer as Teki, Ronnie, Pepe, Brittany, Kalib, Tip, and Valerie each will have an experience that will forever shape and change their young lives.

THIS ARTICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED ON JUNE 5, 1979 (LETTERS TO THE EDITOR PAGE) IN THE FREDERICKSBURG FREE LANCE STAR NEWSPAPER…..
“PUT SOMETHING BACK, GRADUATES URGED” To the Editor:
I am a senior at Spotsylvania High School and will be graduating in a couple of weeks. This year many seniors from our area high schools will be going away to colleges and trade schools to become professionals in the business world and other fields. I hope that many of us will return to this area to put our skills and special training to work. We must not forget where we come from or those who helped us to get where we are (or will be). I can’t speak for every senior, but I have taken something very valuable from this area, and I feel that I must put something back to show my appreciation. I am speaking of education. I have learned that a person should give if he or she has received. I hope that the class of ‘ 79 will join me in the future to reimburse our hometown. RANDOLPH CAMP

Randy Camp raises over $1,700 for the ” I HAVE A DREAM” Foundation
Too often, people decide to run from problems. KCET’s very own Randy Camp decided to run for one. For the last two years, Camp, an avid jogger and Air Force veteran, has run the Los Angeles Marathon for the ” I HAVE A DREAM” Foundation- Los Angeles. Thanks to the support he’s received from friends and co-workers, Camp has raised over $2,900 for the foundation, including $1,728.58 in 2004. Camp says every ache and pain has been worth it. ” A little bit of time can make a big difference. Knowing I had a part in keeping a kid positive makes me feel really good.” Created in 1981, the ” I HAVE A DREAM ” Foundation helps underprivileged children by providing long-term academic enhancement, mentoring, and cultural enrichment. Upon graduation, all “Dreamers” are provided with financial assistance to attend college or vocational school. IHAD now serves some 12,000 children in 60 cities, including over 800 Los Angeles “Dreamers .”
